South Africa Safari #1300
TWO FULL DAYS OF TRAVEL! – We flew to South Africa from Los Angeles with a plane change in Washington, DC, and a quick re-fueling stop in Senegal. On arrival in Johannesburg we caught our flight to Cape Town.
CAPE TOWN – We woke up bright and early and went on a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. In Hout Bay we took a boat ride to see the lovely coastline and a colony of seals. While eating our picnic lunch, we had to keep a watch out for baboons who like to steal lunches! The tour continued over the famous Chapman’s Peak drive with a 200 meter drop on one side and a 200 meter rise on the other, as we made our way south, following the Atlantic Ocean until we reached Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, on our way to see the penguin colony that has become well established at Boulders Beach. The next two days in Cape Town were spent sightseeing, shopping and meeting the very nice local people. We also took a cable tram ride top the top of Table Mountain and had a very high bird’s eye view Cape Town.
SAFARI DAYS! – We caught a flight to Johannesburg and were driven to the “Big 5” Pilansberg Game Reserve. We went on two 3-hour game drives per day, one at 5:30 am and one at 4:30 pm! There were 55 species of large mammals, 354 species of birds and 132 species of trees in this reserve and we saw many of them! Our hosts at the Shepherd’s Tree Game Lodge loved our group and gave us a very special good-bye ceremony, with drumming, songs, many hugs, laughter and tears.
JOHANNESBURG – We spent one last night in Johannesburg, where we enjoyed a traditional African meal and did some last minute souvenir shopping before catching our long flight home to America.
Please remember that you can download these photos to your computer or you can order prints from this Phanfare website. They also have other items you can order like mugs, photo books, calendars, etc. Just click on the Prints & Gifts link on the right side of this page when you are ready to order.
